Our Favorite All Time Dental Superbowl Ads

It is no secret that some people watch the Super Bowl just for the epic ads. Dental brands are not new to marketing during events like the Super Bowl. In fact, over the years, they have had some of the best and most successful ads of all time. Here are our are some of those ads...

Colgate's Conscious Brushing Ad (2016)

This Colgate advertisement is from the 2016 Super Bowl and it highlights the importance of brushing your teeth, but also not running the water while you are brushing. It even brings up the fact that every time you brush your teeth and leave the water on, you could be wasting as much as 4 gallons of water. This is a true fact that we also believe that people should know about! It is very important to brush, but it's equally important to be conscious of your water usage too.

We recommend getting toothbrushes damp before adding toothpaste. Then brush your teeth and your child's teeth with the water off, briefly turn the water on as you spit your toothpaste out after brushing. After everyone flosses their teeth, we recommend briefly turning the water on again to wash down your mouth rinse at the very end. According to the American Dental Association (ADA), mouthwash is not recommended for children under the age of six, however, we still recommend that children between the ages of two and six rinse instead with water.

Colgate's Close Talker Ad (2019)

In 2022, there are definitely fewer "close talkers," however, the challenges of the pandemic have increased some people's awareness of some of the same issues pertaining to the masks. One particular issue is increased chances of bad breath, without consistent oral hygiene. We have seen that some people have started brushing their teeth more due to this fact. While we are grateful it is less likely to run into a character such as the one played by Luke Wilson in this ad, we still appreciate the lessons Colgate shared.

The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends that everyone in your family, including children, brush their teeth twice a day with a fluoride-containing toothpaste and clean between your teeth once a day by using an interdental cleaner such as floss. Helping your child brush their tongue will aid in preventing bad breath too. Many toothbrushes have tongue cleaners on the back of the toothbrush head. This removes the bacteria that contribute to oral odors. Don't forget the back of your mouth! This is where most of these bacteria are found.

Arm & Hammer "Fresh From The Dentist Feeling" Ad (1993)

This Arm & Hammer Tartar Control Toothpaste Ad from 1993's Super Bowl definitely has some fun, nostalgic vibes. It also brings up a good point, there are different kinds of toothpaste. This particular ad Arm & Hammer is talking about the benefits of having baking soda in their tartar control toothpaste. While, the American Dental Association (ADA) does not approve of brushing teeth solely with baking soda, many toothpaste brands include it in some of their formulas. Arm & Hammer is one of the many brands that use baking soda as an ingredient in their oral health products. We believe that Arm & Hammer is an affordable and high-quality option for our patients looking for toothpaste specifically with baking soda in it.

Trident's "4 Out of Five Dentists" Ad (2003)

While we don't recommend that our patients consume any "candies", we understand how tempting sweets are for children. Trident's sugar-free recipe is the only brand that we suggest to parents whose children regularly chew gum. Gums still pose other dental risks, such as the possibility of loosening or pulling out crowns. One of the reasons Trident is the number one selling gum brand in the world is because it does not increase a consumer's risk for developing cavities. The American Dental Association (ADA) actually tests the quality and efficiency of gum products on the market, even giving some of them their ADA Seal of Approval. All of these gums are sugar-free products that have met the American Dental Association's predetermined, objective requirements. This commercial is a fun way to share that some gum, especially Trident, have positive oral hygiene benefits!
